Today's song is These Days, by Jackson Browne
The line that always gets me is the final line - Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them.
I had not forgotten them.
You know that feeling when you've messed up, and you know you have. Those times when we are our own fiercest critic, but it's hard to own up to that to someone else. Often it's hard to honestly admit when we are wrong. Here he does just that. Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was 16. Unbelievable.
Well I've been out walking
I don't do that much talking these days
These days-
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
For you
And all the times I had the chance to
And I had a lover
It's so hard to risk another these days
These days-
Now if I seem to be afraid
To live the life I have made in song
Well it's just that I've been losing so long
I'll keep on moving
Things are bound to be improving these days
These days-
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them
I don't do that much talking these days
These days-
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
For you
And all the times I had the chance to
And I had a lover
It's so hard to risk another these days
These days-
Now if I seem to be afraid
To live the life I have made in song
Well it's just that I've been losing so long
I'll keep on moving
Things are bound to be improving these days
These days-
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them
There are some great covers of this song, but Jackson Browne is impossible to top. Glen Campbell comes close.
